11:30-12:30 Guest speaker/demonstrator: Simon Sonsino.
“Textual Art – Impact and Intrigue”
As a calligrapher, Simon’s specialism is abstract expressionist art using calligraphy and all aspects of letterform. He has exhibited at Art in Action, and has written a book on Textual Art, which he also teaches. He and his wife Yvonne are co-directors of Ardington School of Crafts which offers a wide range of calligraphy and other workshops.
Simon will give a live demonstration of some techniques he teaches, using unusual tools and gestural movements, creating abstract letterforms, building up layers and backgrounds, and utilising special properties of acrylic inks.
There might be a chance to have a go at some of the techniques, space and time permitting. (Bring an apron, just in case.) Simon’s website can be found at: www.simonsonsino.com
12:30-1:30 Lunch (bring your own).
Mulled wine and mince pies will be provided.
1:30-2:30 Paper Snowflakes with Diana Porteus
Diana will demonstrate how to make large hanging paper snowflakes/stars (with which to decorate your homes for Christmas if you feel that way inclined), and there will be an opportunity to have a go. If you would like to have a go at making the large snowflakes/stars please bring scissors and – if you have one – a SMALL stapler plus spare staples. Everything else will be provided.

What I do in addition to calligraphy
We know our members are a talented bunch and thought it would be interesting to see what else we all do when not busy with calligraphy. You might practice other arts and/or crafts (singing, printing, making jewellery, knitting, crochet, painting etc etc), or walk, cycle, or travel extensively (and take photos or keep a travel journal), for example. We would love to see the results of your non-calligraphic activities so please do bring them along to the club day.
Bladon Group 2018 project
Members living near Bladon (just outside Woodstock) meet once a month to share ideas and experiences over tea, coffee and biscuits. And sometimes get down to a little light calligraphy as well. Our current project is entitled Meadows and our results, in the form of an informally bound book will be on display at the Club Day.
