Oxford Scribes Club Day and AGM
We hope you will be able to join us on Saturday, 13th April for our Club Day and AGM. Club Days are an important part of the life of Oxford Scribes, giving members an opportunity to meet together in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoy each others’ company, and listen to some interesting speakers/demonstrators. There’s no need to book and no charge for the day. The April Club Day programme will be as follows:
10.30: Meet and mingle / Browse the Library books & displays
Display: Calligraphic work produced by members as a result of attending a workshop or course. This might be work from an OS workshop, or one you have attended elsewhere.
Pat Russell’s work. There will be another, and final, chance to buy some of Pat’s work. As before, any money raised will be donated to The Macular Society.
11am-12: AGM– Papers and further details to follow
12-1pm: Lunch (please bring your own)
1pm-2pm: Guest speaker/demonstrator: Louise Brockman
Louise is a member of the local and renowned Brockman family of bookbinders. She specialises in producing beautiful marbled papers which can be used as endpapers, for covering books or boxes, making jewellery, cards and in scrapbooking – to mention just a few uses. Louise will be demonstrating the art of paper marbling for us, and giving insights into the way she works. Further information can be found on the Brockman’s website: http://brockmanbookbinders.org/
Club Day display
Following the stunning display of members’ non-calligraphic work at the December Club Day, we thought it would be interesting to see what you have been inspired to produce either during, or after calligraphy/calligraphy-related workshops you have attended. Don’t limit yourself to work produced as a result of Oxford Scribes workshops: we love to see what goes on in the wider world. And don’t worry if what you are able to bring along is a UFO (unfinished object). It can be just as interesting to see a work-in-progress. A simple label for your work, eg which workshop inspired the work, would be helpful.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the day.
