AGM & Club Day

We hope you will be able to join us for our Annual General Meeting and Club Day on Saturday, 7 April.  

The programme for the Club Day is as follows:

10.30 – 11.00 am 

  • Meet and mingle.
  • Browse the Library books. Sale of calligraphic equipment belonging to the late Bernard Hickey and Vic Parkes, both former members of Oxford Scribes.
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available.

11.00 – 11.30 am

  • AGM

11.30 – 12.00 noon

  • Display of work submitted for the CLAS Certificate of Skills in Italic.
  • A further opportunity to browse and borrow Library books which will continue to be on display.

12.00 – 1.00 pm – Lunch – Please bring your own lunch

1.00 – 2.00 pm

Nicolete Gray: pioneer lettering practitioner, teacher and theorist.

The art historian Edmund Gray will give a talk about his mother Nicolete Gray (1911 -1997): who from the Arts & Crafts background of her father, Laurence Binyon, became a notable practitioner and historian of all kinds of lettering, from calligraphy to letter-cutting; friend and expositor of famous artists of her day; and author of many deeply-thought books, including several on lettering based on profound scholarship and the widest range of examples.
